So I extended the invite you guys missed a lot of fun. Climbed most of Breakneck mountain. Spent about 40 minutes in the water fully dressed. Carried logs, water, and the Flag. Met a handful or Marines. I recommend you guys give a Ruck a shot. Thank you Cadre Rage. Red hat on the left of the picture.

Best quote of Podcast 27 "No. It would hurt more because I was involved" - Jocko responding to what it would be like to rip off Echo's toe nail.

Welcome to the boards. Lots of First responders on the boards. If you grew up in So Cal, you don't surf, If you moved there after high school than you do. Is that right?

Awesome Buddy. Dropped a whole Plate (45 lbs). I have been trying to get under 200 lbs for the first time since High School. My most recent motivation has been that I got "Flagged" on a life insurance physical and it cost me $15 bucks a month. I have been doing the Ketogenic diet, and I do eat more veggies than the vegetarians I know. I am 35. I am doing a Ruck this weekend, 6 hours of following a retired Marine near the Hudson River. Once I finish that I will start looking to Jiu Jitsu.

Okay. I will be out next weekend. I assume no one took me up on my offer to pay. Off to make more Troopers. Following some Marine that goes by "Rage". Sounds like a relaxing stroll through the Hudson Valley.

Welcome SurfCardiff. The Gracie's have a youtube video on picking out a BJJ school/gym/training facility. I would specifically talk to an instructor. They typically love getting to choke Newbies. The truth is that choking is not a huge part of BJJ, just the flashy part. Tap early and Tap often.

Welcome Jim. Keep working the hustle muscle. I did warehouse work. It is a fairly easy place to advance. As far as in house frustrations, you can be her companion or her coach. I would recommend she get an external coach. It is easy to work from home with the internet, especially in a diminished capacity. Keep it up. Ask good questions.
Oh, and thinking yourself critical is a red flag (warning sign). Take a look at that.

Hello Cliff. Career wise: Do good work and good work will find you. I think we are all sucked into the dichotomy of Jocko. Power lifter who loves Shakespeare. I think he is so self-formed that he is 100% genuine.

Hello Coach. Welcome to this shadowy den of life and leadership development. Somewhere between the Ninja training in Batman Begins and the Breakfast Club. Meet our cast of characters.
Got any flexibility stuff to help my form on my overhead squat?

Looking at the flyer, they show the light with people carrying a couch for 6 hrs, the tough has people doing flutter kicks in the surf for 12 hours. Heavy is carrying logs in teams for 24 hours. I am starting with the Light. But I can only do 7 chin ups.

Okay, I am about 3 weeks in on just the Free blog and you tube posts. I do the breathing, and the cold showers. Side note: I used to do event security which was 12 hour days and sleeping in barracks, convents, etc. with no insulation i the dead of summer. So I am accustomed to cold showers to try to sleep in the dead of summer. I think you hit the Junior Ice Man status when you are at the gym having you cool shower and trying to get the cold shot at the end and the water wont get any colder.

I have been trying to come up with a good #askJocko to get some of his thoughts on this topic. The sad truth is that you have to be what you want in a child to have a chance to have you child to turn out close to that. There is a proverb "the more you polish a stone, the more it reflects you". It means that the more involved you are, the more you work on your relationship, the more their behavior, thought process, etc resemble yours. So, start by being an awesome human being: humble, initiative, gracious, generous, responsible, CONSISTENT.
The next thing is present solutions instead of problems. It is totally different to say, "Daughter will be fine sleeping on the couch" instead of "Where will daughter sleep?" But you have to ready to accept other options. You can say "a buddy at my work is selling is 10 year old sedan, I will float you the $2K till you can pay me back", but be fine with "I'll take the bus/bike/ride with coworker".
