Work Politics: Consider root word "polite." Also seen in "Metropolis" and "cosmopolitan." I like how Jocko is honest about how he went through his career by making mistakes and being humble enough to learn from those mistakes. Perhaps I relate to that path in the sense that I kinda started overzealous and have learned to redirect that energy via discipline, flanking & such.
Relationship success starts with my beliefs, and my attitude of other people. Am I arrogant? Am I a people pleaser? Am I obsessed with myself that I ask myself questions on a podcast message board? Etc. Key thing is proactively letting other people know that I like them without showing favoritism or being an apple polisher. Basically, showing people that although I'm not taking your side over the boss' side, I'm not taking the boss' side over yours. If you're not sure which side I favor, you'll know that I favor the mission over the 8th grade political mind games. It takes initiative to let even backstabbers know--mainly through body language, eye contact, et al--that "I know that you know that I found out about the knife you put in my back" yet I'm treating you the same respectful way I did before you brought the awkward elephant in the room. "Ain't nobody got time for dat." Comments are always welcome!...why else would I offer this when I should be sleeping right now?

Don't point fingers until the fire is out. When I was a leader I told people to blame me for everything. Once I am blamed, I verify that they did what I told them to do and that they actually used their brain. They know that I am
