...by Holger Eckhertz is a collection of eyewitness accounts, that come in two volumes. These accounts give excellent insight into the minds of the troops defending Normandy in 1944. It was most interesting to gain insight into what they thought was actually going on in Europe at the time, because there can be no war unless both sides think they are the good guys. No Internet back then, and they really thought that Germany was threatened by its neighbours. And the stories are more graphic and stomach turning than any other war novel I have read. Well worth the read, though. Fairly cheap on Amazon: www.amazon.com/DAY-Through-German-Eyes-Hidden-ebook/dp/B00VX372UE
