Hello fellow supporters of an awesomely inspiring podcast. The Jocko Podcast has made a profound impact on the way I carry myself through the day to day grind of life. I began podcast #1 in March; and I finished #21 earlier today. I am very pleased and excited with finding this gem. I was once an avid book reader, but found myself not as interested past few years. My 30th birthday was this year and I hit a wall; mentally and physically. Thank you Jocko and Echo for a great gift. I finished "On Combat" and "On Killing" from LT. COL. Dave Grossman with Loren Christensen. Reads like these have a ton of information to digest and absorb; however I came away with an outstanding poem from "On Combat". I am now going to share this tremendous insight with the upmost humility and thankfulness. I am not a veteran, nor a first responder. THANK YOU, to all who have served and GOD bless you and yours. Tears of pride and absolute humility. GET AFTER IT.
" ON COMBAT"
The Final Inspection:
The warrior stood and faced God; which will always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining, just as brightly as his brass
Step forward now old warrior; how shall I deal with you
Have you always turned the other cheek; to my church, have you been true
The warrior squared his shoulders and said..
No Lord I guess I ain’t. Cuz those of us who carry guns can’t always be a saint
I’ve had to work most Sundays; and at times my talk was tough
And sometimes I’ve been violent; Cuz the world is awfully rough
But I never took a penny that wasn’t mine to keep
Though, I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got just too steep
And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear
And sometimes GOD forgive me; I’ve wept unmanly tears
And now I don’t deserve a place among the people here
They never wanted me around; except to calm their fears
If you have a place for me here lord; It need not be so grand
In life I didn’t expect or need so much; so if you don’t; I’ll understand
There was a silence all around the throne.. For the Saints have often trod
As the warrior stood quietly; for the judgement of his god
Step forward now my warrior; you bore your burdens well
Walk peacefully upon heaven’s streets; you’ve done your time in hell
