Long story short 9ish), I used to train Krav, but six months ago, we were working on thai clinches and one of our assistant instructors got a little overzealous with his grip and yanked me around a we bit too rough, managed to dissect both my vertebral arteries. Basically ripped both my arteries and I threw a clot. Had a stroke right there on the mat. Spent a week in the ICU, week in the hospital, last 6 moths on blood thinners.
I'm on the mend now, no major defects, got really lucky, but I WAS really interested in continuing my training. Now that seems like not an option at all. Docs say I can't do any martial arts, which sucks because I grew up in TKD and Aikido, (Dad was an instructor), and just found Krav last year. Really wanted to go down the rabbit hole on that. Seems like there's no way around rapid neck movements and abuse to that general area.
Has anyone heard of this injury, and heard of anyone that made it back to safely training, and how?
Thanks in advance!
BTW - Be careful with your necks my dudes. A stroke is like 3 seconds away and completely changes your life.

I have heard about similar injury associated with domestic violence. The stroke can be a sign of extreme abuse. Also, Kevin Sorbo had a similar event. Yeah, I know I am full of useless information.
Second, Maybe it is time for some Thai Chi, or Yoga.
Protect your Neck. I think that is a Wu Tang Clan song. I would get strong, flexible, supple. Put combatitives at the bottom of the list.

My ex-wife had the same injury (left vertebral artery) caused by a quack of a Chiropractor, which is why I am hesitant to see one.
