Thank you for a very uplifting and interesting podcast.
My name is Richard Lowe, and I am a ghostwriter and freelance writer. I used to work at Trader Joe's, and in 2013 I decided to strike out on my own and become a writer. It's been an interesting journey. I think many of the lessons I learned throughout my career would be useful to your listeners. If you'd like to discuss, please let me know.
It's been a rough journey to get where I am today, and of course the journey is not over. I was the VP of two startups and the Director of computer operations at Trader Joe's. My wife passed away in 2005 after an 8 year long illness, and decided I didn't want to cave into grief, so I started photographing. I began by visiting most of the national parks in the Western US, then feel in love with Renaissance festivals and other reenactments. I became an official photographer for several of them, and wound up photographing over 400 faires all over the US.
At the faire, I met some belly dancers, and they took me on as the photographer. Before long, I was one of the top photographers for the belly dance community in Southern California. They liked me to photograph because they viewed me as ethical and supportive to their creativity.
So my weekend life was photography and my weekday life was working at Trader Joe's, supporting the computers that ran a $15 billion a year business.
Anyway, I could go on, but you get the idea. My view is you can give into life or you can take control and create your life. I choose to create it.
Thanks for listening, Richard Lowe
