Hello,
I would like to recommend the book The Auschwitz Volunteer: Beyond Bravery by Captain Witold Pilecki for the podcast.
It is the story of a Captain in the Polish Army during WWII, Captain Witold Pilecki. He fought the Nazis when they initially invaded in 1939 and was part of the underground resistance after the fall of Warsaw. As the war went on, Pilecki began to hear rumors of a place called Auschwitz. As part of an intel gathering operation, he deliberately walked into a SS street roundup in Warsaw.
Captain Pilecki was sent to Auschwitz in September 1940. He spent nearly 3 years inside, all the while smuggling intel reports out to the Polish government in exile and organizing prisoners into a resistance movement in case the opportunity for revolt came. In April 1943, he escaped and wrote a complete report. The report he wrote was translated and published as this book.
After Pilecki's escape, he returned to Warsaw and joined the resistance against the Soviets. Once Pilecki's story was discovered by the Soviets, they suppressed it. Only after the fall of the Soviet Union, did Pilecki's story become known to the West.
This is an almost unbelievable story of commitment to the mission in the face of some of the most horrific circumstances in modern history.
Thanks, Chris Monaghan

Mr. Willink, Thank for your service to humanity by providing us with many podcasts, books, and motivations. I am a firefighter/paramedic in Seattle area and attended class by Echelon Front last year. I am also a veteran of cold war that served in Czechoslovakian Army; therefore I am proud every time I hear in your podcast when you mention about Milada Horakova, Vaclav Havel, and about history of Czechoslovakia. The reason I am writing to you is a small recommendation to review a book on your podcast It is an one of the greatest book (in my opinion) about WWI. The Good Soldier Svejk [ pronounced Schweik]: and His Fortunes in the World War. Due to seriousness of your podcast topics, this book could put a smile on your face. The author Jaroslav Hasek was a veteran of WWI and captured many sides of that war in humorous ways. Thank you. Regards, Tomas Sumbera

Hello,
I just discovered there's a section for this: hehehe, I like this blog for its leadership stuff, but I would like to recommend strongly fiction. Especially fantasy fiction bc it has the tendency to heal with the best in ppl and it can lighten up your mood. I listen to the blog bc I find it very reassuring to hear ppl talk about going through truly difficult situations and coming out of them alive and in one piece. Jocko is good at talking about bad stuff without being fazed. It helps me sleep if I listen to it before bed. Its for reassurance in the face of darkness. And the books are to remind me of the light. I highly recommend lighthearted funny ones with predictable endings. Highly! to give u a bit of energy and put a smile on your face.

Try "Dealing with Dragons" - especially good if you have kids you're reading with.

Have you ever read Meditations by Marcus Aurelius? Rhetorical question as I'm sure you have. Might good for the podcast. I'm a big reader but you are turning me on to some new books. More importantly, showing me how to apply what I learn DIRECTLY to my life. Rock on!
