Hi folks. I've recently discovered Jocko's work and Discipline is my new mantra.
I'm an Aussie, older than I'd like to be and trying to reboot my career after dealing with some life stuff. My big challenge is mental fitness. I have difficulties with focus, attention and memory that undermine my performance. Motivation can be a problem - I'm not really where I want to be, professionally, so that's part of it (it's not like I'm going after a goal I'm excited about) and I need to complete a higher degree to ensure progress, so that's a big, daunting goal. But also, I notice that I often struggle with focus in things that I enjoy as hobbies, so it's a bit of a trait that I need to address. So while I want to improve my fitness and health, the primary aim is getting some discipline in terms of mental focus, and that's actually much harder for me than putting on the running shoes.

There are a few things to try. 1. Try working out in the morning. Push ups, take a walk, or hit the gym. This helps you brain and your body. 2. Get an accountability partner. Someone in your life who can help you stay on track to your goals. This person can help you measure your progress. 3. Try something like pre workout with a focus enhanser. Something like Jocko's discipline, or BPI 1MR. If this works have your doctor evaluate you ADHD.
Start teaching yourself. Cut out anything that doesn't help. Probably need to delete 10 apps of your phone. Fix your diet, sleep, and whatever.

If this works have your doctor evaluate you ADHD. Probably need to delete 10 apps of your phone. Fix your diet, sleep, and whatever. Thanks for those suggestions. Definitely need to get moving in the morning. We do have ADHD in the family actually, so I might inquire about that. I need to have a checkup anyway - I'm allergic to doctors but part of the Discipline thing is I'm going to stop ignoring my health and make myself go to the doctor and dentist. Working online is like being a kid in a candy store - so many interesting, distracting things just a click away... I need to be much clearer about my goals, too. Especially the ones I'm not thrilled about - ok, so doing x might feel pointless at the time, but it's bringing income/will ensure I have income in the future.

Totally feeling you on the lack of mental focus. Allow me to introduce you to a couple of friends that saved my life and my brain.
Friend #1. The Ketogenic Diet. There are multitudes of studies that show the brain benefits of the Keto diet. The brain responds so favorably to ketones that, according to Dr. Richard Veech, a blood ketone level above 3.0mmol/l causes the symptoms of both Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease to noticeably improve. I could go on, but I am trying to keep this short.
Friend #2. Aniracetam. I don't know what the laws regarding supplements are like in Australia, but if you can get Aniracetam then do so. Focus, memory, and even emotional intelligence go up. Anxiety, depression, and listlessness go down. It has been studied as an anti-anxiety treatment and found to be as effective or better than commonly prescribed drugs without the side effects. Pair it with a Choline supplement or a couple of eggs or you may get a "Racetam Headche"
Friend #3. Adrafinil. Again, I don't know the laws over there but this is worth finding. It's an analogue of the prescription drug, Modafinil. Which means it isn't technically Modafinil, but your body will convert it into Modafinil. Since it isn't Modafinil it is legal over the counter in the US. Adrafinil is a crazy good cognitive enhancer. It boosts Dopamine levels so you get a surge of clean energy paired with crazy motivation. I use this every day but will double up the dosage if I need to get after it and grind for hours on end.
Of course, follow your local laws but these are what lifted the brain fog for me.
