Hi Jocko and Echo,
I appreciate your podcast and all the information you share! It is nice to hear your points of views and experiences
from different industries than mine (I am in the tech industry). It is interesting how many similarities there are,
even if the industries are different. I guess because "people" is a common denominator across industries, issues
related to people will be similar across industries.
A comment and praise to Echo:
Sometimes it sounds like Echo is getting sidetracked / going down a rabbit hole with some question or topic.
Like, he "over-analyzes" the issue, comes up with different perspectives, or situations like "... but if you are like this,
then that, but if you are like that, then this other thing" etc. It sounds like Jocko sometimes get a tiny bit annoyed
about these ventures. But I actually quite enjoy them!
Jocko's mind is so strong that many of the questions and doubts "normal" people have, don't pop up in your mind,
or if they do, you are able to turn them off quite quickly. It is these questions and doubts that Echo explores and
provides nuance to - as seen from a perspective of more average people (like me).
Echo, you seem to have a pretty good feeling for the kinds of stories we people tell ourselves (or need to tell ourselves)
in order to get something done, and many of the excuses that keep popping up in our heads (at least in mine),
when we don't have that innate iron discipline. In the beginning I subscribed to Jock Podcast after hearing Jocko on
another podcast. Starting out, I was mostly interested in Jocko's point of view (he was the Seal commander, after all).
But as I have listened to more and more podcasts, I am starting to enjoy Echo's contributions more and more :-)
As a listener, I find there is a great synergy between Jocko's "Never surrender - brute force discipline" approach, and
Echo's "trick yourself into acting" approaches to the issues discussed.
By the way, it's not that I think Jocko's approach is always "unnuanced, brute force, just do it". I find great nuance
in Jocko's perspectives on leadership, communication, sense of people's egos etc. I just also appreciate Echo's
somewhat different perspective ... maybe you guys are reminding me a bit about Thor and Loke from the
Northern mythology (I am from Denmark). Thor being Jocko, and Loke being Echo ... except sometimes Jocko is
Loke too ;-)
Keep it up!
