Never Forget
By An anonymous TSA Officer
17 years ago today, marks the day that this country faced it's greatest loss of innocent lives. It is a day that many swear, they will “Never Forget”. It is a day that children lost parents, spouses never had a chance to say goodbye, loved ones said their final words to family members frantically over the phone. This event was incomprehensible, no one could have seen it coming. I surely didn't, I was 6 years old and the word “terrorist” was not quite in my vocabulary yet. As a result of that fateful day, the job which I hold today was created. The role of a TSA Officer. It is a job that people did not question; People understood the need after what had happened; People had not yet Forgotten. People across our nation today will share memorial posts on their social media and may take a few seconds to reflect on that day, but they will Forget. They will not remember tomorrow the pain that all those people felt 17 years ago. They will go back to feeling safe and secure and invincible. They will not have to think about and remember the harm that was done that day; Because we will, everyday that we wear that uniform. We truly do not Forget. We will not allow another attack on our watch. Being a TSA Officer is a thankless job; People despise you and get irate with you because they aren't allowed to keep their water bottle, or because they have to take their shoes off. Because they have Forgotten. They don't remember that people like Sheikh Mohammed and Richard Reid exist. But we remember. We will always remember, and we will never Forget.
