In this podcast Jocko takes more than enough time to introduce the concepts behind the book "machete season". He points out that this is a book written by "the killers" and I think we should reinforce that here. As a human I'm tolerant enough of the idea of killing other species. I can get upset at the idea of clubbing baby seals and I can pull off the empathy necessary to cry when they talk about shooting wild horses but I grew up on a farm and at the end of the day if I can eat it or whatever it made room for then there's a part of me that accepts that. But there's no part of me that truly understands what these people felt when they killed their neighbors, friends, and family because of some ancient tribal association or modern political separation. I am student of genetic dominance and an apostle of family pride but the lineage of death that is unveiled in this book is beyond anything I have ever experienced or previously postulated. Let Jocko turn the pages and Echo Charles express the wonder so we can be proxies to the horror and the wonder that occurs in the countries, peoples, and warfare we are lucky enough to have avoided. (Can you tell I like a good story?)
