I don't want to start anything where we argue about cartridges, caliber, and carry.
I think a lot of people don't know where to start to learn about fire arms. The thread below about your first fire arm has some great information. So lets talk about where we learned about firearms.
I shot a single shot 22 when I was about 10 at Grandpa's land. We punched paper targets. Did some paint ball in high school and college. Met some responsible gun owners through that, nothing ever came about. Got invited to shoot pistol from a great buddy after we both had kids. That was about 10 years ago.
Now, I had a long journey due to my first firearm was a pistol in a state that requires a pistol permit. Once I did get it I went to the range with an older buddy. Soon, after I joined a range. After that I filled out the collection in the standard method, Shotgun, center fire pistol, then rim-fire rifle. Still waiting on a center fire rifle due to the opportunity to shoot one and the need for one. I can shoot the 22 rifle and the pistols at the typical indoor range. Shotguns for Trap when I can make time for it.
I don't carry daily due to the day job. It also has to do with all the ways you can go to jail in this state. Also, my wife has very high standards for how fire arms are to be handled and stored. I honor all of her requests and the heavy belt makes life awkward and uncomfortable.

The first time I shot was recently. Maybe fall of 2013. I shot a 9mm with dummy rounds. My Dad (former Army enlistee) taught me. We came home from that visit and I promptly signed up for a women's pistol class at the local range. IT was a 6 week course. I shot a revolver, a 22 and a 9MM Glock of some sort. I enjoyed it and was good at it.
Took another course..women's self defense and shooting a a C&S Shooting sports...it was a combo of Krav and shooting. AWESOME!! Fell in love with the Sig P320 with the extended grip. Also liked the Glock 17. My Dad gave us his old Beretta for Christmas this year. I don't like it as much but it is a good shot and easy to handle.
One of my goals for the year is to earn my CCP.

I can't remember the first time I learned to shoot because I was so long. I do remember going shooting in the woods with my father at a young age. He was a physician, not particularly active and rarely shot. He removed an M-1 carbine from the truck of his Buick and we walked into the woods. He proceeded to saw off the limb of a pine tree, over 15 feet in the air, with the carbine. This is when I realized I wanted to do this as a hobby.
Fortunately, I am in a concealed carry state and can carry almost anywhere. I shoot for fun and as a part of being a responsible member of society.
