I just got the book, Patton's Juggernaut, The Rolling 8-ball, 8th Tank Battalion of the 4th Armored Division, 15 extraordinary Achievements.
Brigadier General Albin F. Irzyk is a living legend, and I just got this book for Christmas. I'm familiar with the man because I got into writing about the Sherman tank out of annoyance at how bad people think it was, based on really bad evidence. General Irzyk wrote a very nice article on the Sherman tank Shortly after the end of the war, defending it as a war winning vehicle, better than the German armor it faces. You can find it here: Tank Versus Tank A report by Lieutenant Colonel Albin F. Irzyk, HQ, 8th Tank Battalion. If you want a defense of the Sherman tank, by a man who knew how to use them, this is just about the best report you can read. General Irzyk is still alive, and will be 101 tomorrow. I have no connection to the man other than great admiration for his service. I have no idea how to contact him, but how incredible would it be for Jocko to get him on the podcast? Episode 95 with Jim Kunkle and Charlie Plumb was outstanding, to hear a man who flew them talk about one of my favorite planes of all time the P-38, I've listened to it three times! If you check out the airplane pics page, I have tons of P-38 photos up and several pilots manuals for it for download. If you could get General Irzyk, it would be that amazing, maybe more so, this man surely met Patton. Happy New year gentlemen.
