Listened to 100. The mind state you referred to as “turning mind off” is about shifting from “controlled processing” to automatic processing”. These are the two forms of processing activity in the brain. Controlled or conscious processing takes a longer route through the brain so requires much more time and energy. The road to mastery requires activating automatic or subconscious processing as it requires much less time and resources. Should be the objective of all training. We are much faster and have more horsepower when we operate in automatic mode. Trick is to walk razors edge between the two and be able to lean into automatic with trust when speed of action is required. Good on you and the crew for your work honoring Seth man. Very well done. At 1:38 Tim mentions relaxing eyes and being able to hold breath longer. Is because brain uses 20-25% of our energy (oxygen and glucose) and our vision uses 20% of that! Relaxing vision reduced fuel consumption so increase efficiency. It’s why we shift from focused vision to unfocused vision when we have to think hard about a question. Notice how most will disengage direct eye contact and stare into space when confronted with a difficult question. Closing one eye frees up 1.5-2% of our total available energy. That will be what allows someone to break the 2 hour marathon, training to race with one eye closed then executing in a relaxed fashion shifting from right closed to left closed and back every x minutes throughout the race.
