Jocko/Echo,
My name is Bill McMahon. I'm a retired carpenter/building inspector from Chicago. I married and moved to SoCal in the last 2 years. I have a 27 year old son, back in Chicago who is just getting started in BJJ. He recommended a episode of Joe Rogan's podcast that featured Jocko. I was hooked on the energy.
I am producing kitchen cabinets in my backyard shop and have plenty of time to listen. I started with epidsode 1 of the Jocko Podcast and listened through 10. Then I listen to Extreme Ownership the first time. Continued listening through episode 30, then listen to the book for the 2nd time. Now I'm up to episode 52 and wondering when you will release another Audio book. Before too long I will have caught up to you guys as far as the podcast goes, and looking forward to every episode. I found each and every one of your guests amazing and I love the recounting of combat stories. It has shown to me that SEALs are not the enigma I thought they were. They are regular guys who accepted an awesome responsibility
Since starting your podcast, it has opened a new world to me. I was always a military buff, but did not serve. I was in the last Lottery drawing for Viet Nam, turned 20 at the time of the fall of Saigon. Still regret not serving.
My father was a triple Bronze Star recipient with the 720th Operating Battalion of the US Army. He was the engineer of the first train into Paris during the liberation. He was not drafted due to childhood polio, but enlisted. He served along with his 2 brothers, one of which (My namesake) was killed in the Battle of the Bulge. Unfortunately, I did not learn anything about his military time until his death in 1993, after retiring from the Chicago Police Department after 36 years of duty.
My younger brother was one of the coalition of Firefighters who scrambled to NYC, 13 hours after the towers fell, to assist in the rescue mission. He has since passed away from COPD inherited from working that pile.
As you can tell, I am very proud of my family's history of service and regret that I did not serve in some way. Regardless, just wanted to introduce myself, and tell you to keep up the good work.
Rest assured I will be here "Getting After It" in my workshop and listening to all your inspirational episodes.
Very Truly Yours,
Bill McMahon
