Does anyone remember hearing jocko talk about how "if you don't get a promotion, that's not your boss's fault, it's your fault. Your boss wants to look good and wants the company to do well, and if you were the best for the job he would have promoted you." I'm paraphrasing but it was along those lines and I'm looking for the specific quote.
I have reread the book, watched YouTube videos, and tried to listen to whichever podcast looks the closest to what I'm looking for(#3 and 10) but can't find it.
Can anyone help?

The more I've thought about it there was more to it along the lines of " if you want something from your higher ups and they turn it down because they don't understand, invite them to work with you for a day and show them why you need what your requesting. It's not their fault that they don't understand if you don't show them", again I'm paraphrasing.

I remember a similar thing. Your promotion is up to you. I think it may have been in the Tim Ferris podcast that featured Jacko, not sure.
