Anybody else practicing the Wim Hof breathing method?
Wim Hof is a dutch guy. He holds more than 20 world records for enduring extremely cold temperature and climbing the Everest in only his shorts and shoes.
How he does it? Breathing.
Basically his method is about hyper-oxygenating the body and the brain by taking 25-30 deep breaths and letting only a tiny bit of air out in between. A couple rounds of that activates the immune system and generates a high amount of adrenalyn which enables the individual to withstand ordeals previously thought to be impossible.
Not only that but it really is an efficient meditation method.

I think I get 40% of this. Is it part of something else or specifically apart from something? How about a specific resource to get the readers digest version. Obviously I am not a practitioner, yet.

My Mom and Dad have just finished it.
My dad spent 5 minutes in a frozen lake he had to cut a whole open with a chain saw as a finish. They have seen some pretty impressive results.

kcat428. Okay. I have been pumping this into my head. I think I am going to try this on a few people. I have a few friends that are not exercise people that could probably do the breathing. I have done some cold quenching but I think I will start it up again with some of these techniques.

I bought Wim Hof's online course four months ago and found it very helpful. I'll admit to only getting through weeks 1 and 2 but even doing those over and over again gives you some great benefits.
Part of the daily practice includes standing under cold showers for short periods of time (30-60 seconds). If I could relax under a cold shower, it gave me a sense of self control and discipline. Doing this alone, I found, added a small discomfort to the day that made everything else easier in comparison.
If you want to try the cold shower, deep controlled breathing is the key. If you've ever gotten a deep tissue massage, the extended exhale to relax the muscle is what you are emulating.

Okay, I am about 3 weeks in on just the Free blog and you tube posts. I do the breathing, and the cold showers. Side note: I used to do event security which was 12 hour days and sleeping in barracks, convents, etc. with no insulation i the dead of summer. So I am accustomed to cold showers to try to sleep in the dead of summer. I think you hit the Junior Ice Man status when you are at the gym having you cool shower and trying to get the cold shot at the end and the water wont get any colder.

I tried doing his breathing thing for a couple months now, just what i've been able to learn from youtube etc. I'm able to withstand cold showers much better than before as a result. Now that it's -20c here I also been going for a light run outside with just a tshirt/jeans in the mornings. I haven't actually bought his coarse, though I am tempted to. I'm wanting to experiment with his method to see if his breathing will help with air consumption when using scba

Yeah, I love the game of discomfort. I do the cold showers. I love them after any cardio. I find that "flexing" helps over come some of the shock. Think Pavel's 10 second total body activation. Pavel Tsatsouline.
For breathing efficiency, I developed the swim trick of swimming a lap on one breath. It is a game of slowing down you breathing and heart rate. Then you have to swim efficiently. Not too slow, not too fast. There is some level of panic, focus, and physical training. I am sure it would help reduce your consumption rate on your tanks. Maybe we can plan a trooper Wim Hoff course and all do it together.

Wim has an app called "Wim Hof Method" that I find really useful. Includes video explanations of the various techniques by Mr. Hof. Fastest way to understand and start to use the methodologies.
