I just have seen a video on London Real Podcast on Geoff Thompson. He is an expert in self-defence and he moves a critic on the jiu jitsu validity in self defence. He argues about the fact that in realistic situation it's difficult to to be in one agaist one like in jiu jitsu, with illimited amount of time available, with no other friends that come to help the "bad guy" . He finds nonetheless the lack in the jiu jitsu in self defending againt specific sport pohibited attacks like "put the fingers in the eyes" or the head stroke or other ... What do you think about it?

Jiu Jitsu is a great skill set to have when you get into a clinch or go to the ground. The average physical altercation is over in something like 90 seconds. Most of those end up with one or both guys on the ground. Having a good ground game is like having a good short game in golf. The real skill is deescalation. Situational awareness prevents the altercation. If the contact/communication starts to intensify, deescalation is the skill to have. Give a mile to gain an inch. If a guy wants to pick a fight with you, 8 times out of ten it has more to do with them than you. 2 times out of 10 you need to check yourself. Either way the win is for you to not fight. Mr. Thompson is not talking about a fight at a bar or a club. He is talking about being abducted or escaping a war torn country. If you get in a fight in civilization and gauge someones eyes out, you go to jail forever. If you are escaping Mosul and a soldier tells you to stop, don't think he will oblige you to go live with a clap and a bump.
