Jocko, I am 23 years old and I work as a police officer. I pride myself on being very athletic, I run, lift, and train bjj everyday; but with the unpredictability of my schedule I sometimes find it hard to find time to do all 3 every day. Is there a type of split that you would recommend to get the best of all three worlds, or would you recommend one over the other? I appreciate all the motivation from you and echo every week. Thanks again and I'll keep giving them hell. Orly Alvarez

Orly, Jocko doesn't answer questions here. Feel free to drop that question on Facebook, or I will post it there for you. It is good to have a short term focus and a long term focus. Here is a horrible example. Try the USAF fitness test. See how you score on: Push-ups, Sit-ups, Pull-ups, and a mile and half timed run. See if you have one that scores much lower. Maybe a session with a good personal trainer. Verify your hip, shoulder, spine mobility. Check flexibility. Maybe some gymnastic moves like hand stands or Jefferson curls. Now I would take that one focus and do it 5 days a week. The 2 other days I would do the other 2. Running 7 days a week serves a specific purpose. Rolling 7 days a week probably doesn't offer more benefits than 3 to 5 days. And lifting 7 days a week is typically to just maintain performance. Pick 1 to do every day and alternate the other one, is probably a good compromise.

I currently do weight lifting and cardio on Monday and Friday then do Jiu Jitsu two days out of Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and then some stretching on the day I don't do Jiu Jitsu. It's working out well for me so far.

What kind of weight training do you do on the days that you do lift weights? Full body, kettlebell, or some type of cross fit training? Thank you for your advise it is really helpful.

It's a type of crossfit training, but not as hardcore and more traditional types of lifts and other exercises as regular crossfit.
