Uncle Jake,
My boys love the Warrior kid!
We just finished the first book and are listening to the podcasts.
We will start the next book sometime this week.
Can you direct me to a podcast or book that covers anything on brotherhood and why kids should show respect toward parents, teachers etc?
Regarding brotherhood - some ideas that would be nice to talk about...
- Protect your brother
- Stick together
- Teach and train with your brother in jiu jitsu and other ideas - sports, games, math, spelling etc..
- Never use jiu jitsu to hurt your brother/training partner - always train in a positive way that promotes growth.
- Find ways to help and encourage each other - stronger as a team!
- Complement your brother. Yet, hold him accountable.
- Demand integrity from each other.
- Regarding your little brother... balance everything is a race... vs have fun share the win - spot your little brother some points or time or something to even the playing field.
-> Find ways to help your little brother to become stronger.
Regarding parents
- Listening
- Showing respect
- Understanding when to hustle - e.g., being on time.
2 basic times when parents may raise their voice:
1. Respect
it is always important to show respect - e.g., Kids are getting a little rowdy in a public place and the kids are so fired up they don't hear their parents asking them to cool it.
Time factor -> it's time to go -> if we are late to the "thing" the kids will miss out and/or it is disrespectful to the people you have an appointment with ... school etc...
So... parents raise their voice to get the kids attention.
2. Danger
- The kids are doing something that could get them in a lot of trouble... therefore, parents raise their voice to get the kids attention.
in these situations, it would be nice to have a story that helps the kids understand they need to stop what they are doing and pay attention to what their parents are saying vs the parents just raising their voice to get their kids attention.
Thanks, uncle Jake!!
