Hello i am Zachary Pittenturf and i live in Carpentersville Illinois, i have beared witness to a lot of horrible things in my life and now that i am believing in spirituality it led to here.
I have been listening to jocko or at least taking his words seriously for 2 years now and my leadership skills have been improving.
What are some ways do you think to combine mindfulness & awareness with leadership skills?

Mindfulness and Awareness are forms of detachment. Knowing and understanding your emotions is a great way to help you see people's reactions as what they are and now how they make you feel. Someone not doing what you said is often looked upon as disobedience, when often it is more forgetfulness, avoiding something difficult, unknown, or new. Jocko has a great example from a Magnum where a general wants 3 captains to attack together. To make this happen the General gives 3 different orders to the captains. One says "there is no way you could attack at dawn". Two says "Only you can attack at dawn". Three says "You and your 2 fellow captains will attack at dawn". This shows that the leader understands his captains and knows how they will react to his orders. This is also no reflection on the general. He is getting the outcome he wants. The fact that his captains may be acting in spite of his orders does not make him less effective.
The second factor of Mindfulness is a general calm. If you have developed your mindfulness, you are not a part of the chaos around you. Watch when in chaos. Do not try to stop it. In my family we have a saying of "Prioritize the regular and you will regularly miss the chaos". Many people feed into chaos because it is an excuse. I can't because the kids are sick or the car broke. If you can keep making progress when the kids are sick and the car broke, you will be reliable and available. That will make you the prime choice.
Welcome to the boards, Soldier.
