I have been in my current role as a director for three years. Business is good. I enjoy the actual work. I do not enjoy the red tape. I do not enjoy the relentless pace. But I understand it.
The main problem is that I am always on call 24/7 365. I am afraid I am burning out. I want to get after it, but I also want to keep my health and sanity.
I have applied for a job making less but with less stress. It will be tight but my fam can afford the pay cut and wife is on board.
If that job does not hire me I am seriously considering telling Ceo that I need a transfer to something else.
Thoughts and feedback please, friends. Thank you.

First rule: If you can't take care of yourself, you can't take care of the team. Changing jobs to reduces stress or improve health is a very mature thing to do. No pay scale is worth an ulcer and a cardiologist. Ryan Holiday talks about this and he wasn't even stressed. He just wanted to do something else. The next step would be to talk to your boss and see if you are going above an beyond what the job requires. Maybe you could chop up your responsibility and share it with your team. There maybe other ways to reduce your stress in this same job. Talks up the chain and laterally to see if this is possible. At the new job, ask if outside work is allowed and what the rules are. Maybe you can make a little golden time to make up the difference in pay, or find a side job that doesn't conflict with your 9 to 5. There are answers, and you don't need them all today. Respect for working it out with the wife and family before making any big steps. Let us know how the "new job" app works out.
