My family and I recently moved to the Columbus, GA area. I've never study martial arts before but I want to start. What are the things I need to know or make sure of when choosing a school? Do you have any suggestions for the area I am in? Thanks in advance for your help.

I am not near there, but some good suggestions would be try a class. Most schools will do a class or 2 before any money changes hands. Pay attention to the class offerings. Pay attention to the other students. Make sure the teacher is aware of all that is going on in the class. Humility. No silly pricing schemes. See if the formality matches your personality. My experience, the more formal and ornate seem to be light on instructor quality.
Had the great experience at my kids BJJ school, sitting with parents. One parent is a cop, other parent wearing an ankle monitoring bracelet.
