Just wanted to thank Jocko and Echo for putting out an amazing Podcast. Jocko has helped me change my life. I went from being 260 pounds, former college football defensive linemen, to 220 pounds. They have both helped me to push myself mentally and physically daily, not to make excuses and obviously how to lead in a business setting and in my personal life. I don’t know if they will ever see this, but I wanted to take a quick second to share my appreciation for them and all that they do.

Will, Welcome to the boards. Good job on getting out of the "8 to a ton" club.

Seems like a great podcast. And I just ordered Jocko's recent book, so a potential fan in the making, but... so much hard breathing and tongue clicking into the mic. Drives me nuts and makes me constantly stop listening every few minutes. The fact that I try again a day later or so should show that I want to be a fan and not just hear criticizing for the sake of being a jerk. There was a team when being a professional broadcaster took the same work as being great at anything else. Having great things to say is just a part of it. Working on sound quality and use of the tool of voice is another that seems to be neglected these days. Jocko seems like someone who would not shy from constructive criticism and will hopefully work to improve and seek something closer to perfection. I'd love to find more inspiration in these podcasts but want to be able to enjoy listening rather than struggle to bare the annoying mouth sounds. Hard breathing into the mic and aggressive tongue clicks might just take practice to reduce. Then there's filters and mic qualities, etc to work on strong Ts and Ss. For the record, Tim Ferris has a lot of these issues as well, as much as I like the topics covered on his podcasts too. Wondering if anyone else finds these issues. Even if it doesn't bother you as much, would you like to see your favorite podcasters improve in these areas? I see Sam Harris as a great example of someone who not only has content I love but also has a professional and appropriate way of speaking into a microphone.

Robert, This is a very niche critique. If I had to guess, you know what an "air check" is. Jocko has excellent public speaking technique. He could use some mild "VO" coaching or aggressive editing, but that is a tall order for a weekly 3 hour podcast. Sam Harris's NPR style mic refinement is a particular art. Jocko's voice is more textured, like a hand planed board.
If your daily job involves sound editing then you might have to change your behavior in strange ways. I had a similar thing where Victoria's Secret lighting made me physically angry for about 18 months.
