Hey there,
I'm on the low carb high fat nutrition for a couple of months and the feeling is GREAT.
My question is this:
I'm training in running and in the gym. My running training include long slow runs of 2 hours and most of the other runs are very intense intervals.
Carbs are important for high intensity training, is there a reason to consume more carbs before or after the workouts in order to maintain the glycogen reserves?
Thanks, Eitan.

Hey Eitan,
While I don't personally have a response to your question, Joe Rogan recently had 2 fantastic guests on his podcast which talk heavily about this diet. Episode 752 w Mark Sisson and Episode 756 w Kyle Kingsbury. I know they talk about workout meals and when to eat what. Unfortunately I don't remember which guest nor at what point. Nonetheless I found these podcasts extremely informative. Hope that helps.

Thanks.

I also remember both those guests and Jacko as well have mentioned someone named Dominic D'agostino. I haven't looked into his work yet but maybe he'll have answers for you? Sorry for all the non answer answers, but it's the best I can think of

I'm not particularly knowledgeable, but I was under the impression that once you've taught your body to burn fat for energy and not carbs, you no longer have to carb-load for either low- or high-intensity training

I had a high school job on a dairy farm, So I have different thoughts than many people. I am a huge fan of animal product, eggs, meat, milk and cheese. I hate overly modified food. I took about a year off of sugar and that had been good. My personally problem is I eat for so many different things. I was trying to get my squat and dead lift up and ate like a horse. Now I am trying to get my weight down, and eat cheap. So lots of foliage, cheap whole grains (rice and oats), eggs, meat (lots of it ground), cheese, veggies. My stuff is very based upon recommendation of Vinnie Tortorich. My go to snacks are simple things like pickles, carrots, and hard boiled eggs.

I don't want to create a separate discussion, but I read a lot about how if I don't eat enough carbs, I can't gain muscle. So keto doesn't work for me. I am avoiding simple carbs, hopefully, I will be OK.

This is so person and goal specific. If you are trying to gain weight, carbs are helpful. If you are trying to get stronger you can do it either way, but carbs tend to speed up the progress. This always starts with why are you eating low carb? Body fat, insulin management, even energy, seizure prevention. HIIT training is intended to drain your glycogen, reduce bodyfat and increase lean body mass. If you like HIIT, eat carbs. If you hate HIIT and want to reduce bodyfat and increase lead body mass, low carb is an option.
