I have been dancing around this thread for a few weeks now. I have been trying to be NSNG (no sugar, no grains). My biggest fall is Corn. Corn chips, tortillas, and Pop corn. Ice cream, coffee cake and Cheese cake have been calling my name for about 3 months.
The thing that makes it worse, is that I am working too much, not sleeping enough and stress eating. Ketogenic stress eating. Once it was peanut butter and mustard. Today, it is just spoon fulls of hot sauce.

I quit refined sugars first, then simple grains, then went full ketogenic. But the whole time I had job related stress. What helped me was the "food as fuel" idea. How much freaking food do you really need? How much water do you really need to drink? We tend to stuff our gobs as a reaction to the hours passing.
I started thinking in terms of days and not hours. 2 days since I ate a real meal? Oh! time to stop and eat a plate full of food. 4 hours since I had a drink of water? How hot is it? Do I really need water? The sun set how long ago? Does that mean it's time to sleep?
I LOVE my schedule but my circadian rhythms are more easily synced to something more purpose driven than to generalized habits.
That's probably no help to you but it is how I changed my daily life.

Yes. I love your picks of Dinner. Meat and peppers and always an impressive blade. It has been almost a year since I have "gone out" for desert. My circle of friends always think that I am joking when I say I have 2 hours free at 5 AM.
My habit is drinking coffee. I do it instead of smoking or chewing gum. If I am out hiking or even working on the car or house, I can go a day or more without a cup. I am interested in the Jocko Tea. I will probably also try giving it for Christmas, as a subtle podcast plug.
I also enjoy the picks from the machine shop. I did a little CNC and knee mill stuff in college. We have so much trouble getting contractors to do quality welding, I might have to go back to fabrication. I enjoy chatting with you. Nice to find guys with skilled hands and developed minds.

Has anyone looked into or tried the Whole 30 approach?

Once I switched into my full-time day job in IT I went keto, and haven't looked back since. It's been about 4 months now. I track my macros with the LoseIt app. For me I consume 75 - 80% Fat (mostly avocado, Extra virgin olive oil, hard cheeses, and animal fat) 20 -25% Protein and 4 - 6% carbs. I've lost 17 pounds. I was 217 LBS at 5'9. In the past few weeks I've gained two pounds. My measurements are telling me it's got to be muscle. My waist is smaller, my chest, arms etc got bigger. I eat 'keto clean'. When there is a hankering for carbs I remind myself of bacon. As a quick fat fix I recommend Chai tea steeped in heavy cream for when you're not hungry but want to get the fat up.
