From what I could find, he seems like an awesome leader and a great choice for our country. What are your thoughts on General Mattis?

My quick impression is that he is a good Marine. That is both a great thing and a bad thing. Marines, I have known, are not great at biting their tongue. They are take them as you see them. The early reports about him seem to agree. I think him being under Trump is probably good for both of them. Trump wont take his honest disagreement personally. Mattis wont care about trying to brown nose and or protecting his political ambitions.
The previous guys who had the job were close to him professionally. I think Mattis will get balanced support from his leadership, and I think the people in his command would do anything for them.

I was recently passed along his Leadership Philosophy and Guidance. I will make a separate post about it with the subject so you can all see it. Judging from that reading material he is an awesome leader and has a lot of insight. I typically see things from leaders that don't seem genuine and even irrationally optimistic, but Mattis's words look honest and reasonable.
